The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 8-2 to the Miami Marlins last night for their third loss in a row. For Miami, it was their fourth victory in a row. The Bucs had six hits, with Nick Gonzales and Ronnie Simon picking up four of those. Gonzales had the Pirates only extra-base hit in the series so far. Carmen Mlodzinski pitched 2-1/3rd innings allowing four earned runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out just one batter. Lake Bachar pitched three innings in the middle of the game, allowing three earned runs.
The two teams complete their series this afternoon at 1:10pm. WISR pre-game begins at 12:45. Braxton Ashcraft will start for the Bucs today. He has a 7.58 ERA since the All-Star Break.
After this afternoon’s game, the Pirates, who have now lost seven of their last eight games, return home to host a six-game homestand against two American League teams. First up will be the Boston Red Sox beginning Friday night. The Detroit Tigers come to Pittsburgh Monday.
Oneil Cruz continued his rehab assignment at Double-A Altoona and had his first hits in four games. He had two singles in five at-bats Wednesday.
