The first phase of a new community playground at Emily Brittain School is officially complete.
Butler Area School District Board members and administrators were joined by County Parks and Recreation officials for a ribbon-cutting event for the safe and inclusive playground equipment Monday afternoon.
A state grant for $45,000 was secured with help from local state Representative Marci Mustello but a large amount of the matching funds was secured by the Emily Brittain Parent Teacher Organization.
This playground is open to families and students of all ages and development as well as the neighboring YMCA even when school is not in session.
Fundraising for phrase two of this project is now underway with plans including more swings and climbing equipment as well as accessibility surfacing.
