New legislation in Harrisburg is seeking co-sponsors for a bill that would ban flock cameras in Pennsylvania.
The cameras, which are called automated license plate readers (ALPRs), are operated by Flock Safety and collect license plate information into a searchable database for vehicles on public roads.
The legislation introduced by Republican State Senator Doug Mastriano would protect police’s ability to use these cameras when searching for a stolen vehicle, abducted child, wanted fugitive, or a vehicle connected to a criminal investigation to protect the public.
The bill would prohibit routine, suspicion less collection and retention of motorist’s movements though automated license plate surveillance.
Mastriano has not officially introduced the bill.
