Newly proposed state legislation would see stiffer penalties for E-Bike riders.
According to PennDOT, E-bikes can reach speeds as high as 20 miles per hour and a collision with a vehicle traveling 35 miles per hour could result in a fatal crash.
Currently E-bike riders are required to equip their bikes with safety equipment and if a rider violates these rules the penalty is a summary offense and a $10 fine.
Newly proposed legislation would increase safety standards and penalties for now following laws.
The legislation is seeking co-sponsors and has not been formally introduced.
