A New York man has been charged in Butler County after being accused of committing identity theft of a dead man in Portersville.
The alleged incident happened in January of 2025 when the accused, 65-year-old Luis Cuascut of Bronx, attempted to withdrawn $2,500 from the account of a man that died four years ago.
Cuascut used an ID with the victim’s name and was able to withdraw the money with a check at First National Bank on Perry Highway. The victim’s widow was informed the money was taken and was paid back the stolen funds.
Cuascut is accused of committing similar crimes across the country is wanted in several states.
He has been charged with identity theft and theft by deception for this alleged theft and a preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.
