State lawmakers are looking to act on creating laws to prevent the creation of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).
A recent federal court case ruled that AI-generated CSAM is not a crime.
In effort to prevent the future creation of this material, lawmakers are looking to pass a bill that would hold the companies responsible for allowing the creation.
The legislation, that has not been formally introduced, would require companies to prevent the creation of the material, maintain reasonable safeguards and responded to any material’s creation, and allow the Attorney General to seek injunctions and civil penalties.
The bill does have an exception for law enforcement to use this technology for judicial proceeding research.
