A Portersville man has been placed in the Butler County Prison after being accused of stealing a gun from a Butler Township gun store.
The incident happened on Thursday around 11:30 a.m. at Down Range Supply on Evans City Road.
According to charging documents, 21-year-old Logan McPeak was seen on surveillance video walking into the store, reaching around a glass display case, and taking a gun then leaving the store.
Before taking the gun, McPeak was informed by an employee he could not purchase a gun after failing a background check in January. The employee in the store was helping customers when McPeak took the gun and checked surviallacne camera’s right after when McPeak left the store.
McPeak has been charged with theft by unlawful taking, firearms not to be carried with out a license, and retail theft. He was placed in the Butler County Prison and bail was set at $30,000.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for tomorrow.
