Leaders of Butler Memorial Hospital and WVU Medicine are offering more on the new merger.
WVU Medicine officially took over control of Butler Memorial, and four other former Independence Health System hospitals, last Friday.
Earlier this week, an employee appreciation event was held to celebrate the merger. Butler Memorial Hospital President Matt Schnur.
“There’s going to be a renewed committment to expanding community services at the hospital,” Schnur said. “That is something that has always been important to us, but with the strength of being a part of WVU Medicine, not only will that be sustained, but expanded upon.”
WVU Medicine North Region President Doug Harrison says they are committing significant dollars to improve the hospital.
“We want to be a national leader in rural healthcare delivery. That means keeping as much care local and building upon programs and services to meet the needs of the hospital,” Harrison said.
WVU Medicine has committed $800 million to upgrades across the newly acquired hospitals, including a major commitment to renovation the emergency room at Butler Memorial Hospital.
