Butler County is looking into an outside agency with a forensic audit.
The investigation will center around an agency the county does business with, although the controller’s office did not identify the organization.
The audit could cost the county up to $10,000.
Officials say the agency was forthcoming with the issue and add that it might not be wrongdoing, but just procedural problems.
“This could result in an improvement in practices and policies by the entity,” Controller Ben Holland said. “We have not gotten into these situations often as a vast majority of funding comes through the controller and is vetted.”
The timeline on the investigation is unknown.
