Penn State running back Saquon Barkley has been named the Big Ten Conference “offensive player of the year”, “running back of the year” and “return specialist of the year”. It was his second consecutive year to be named “offensive player of the year”. Only two other players have ever achieved the honor twice in the Big Ten: Drew Brees when he was at Purdue, and Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller.
A number of the college football conference championship games will be played this weekend. The games begin with the Pac-12 conference championship game tonight between Southern Cal and Stanford.
Saturday: Clemson and Miami meet in the ACC championship. Auburn and Georgia play for the SEC title. Oklahoma and TCU meet in the Big 12 title game. Wisconsin and Ohio State play for the Big Ten championship.
The final College Football Playoff rankings will be revealed Sunday night, and will determine the four teams who will compete for the national championship.
IUP will host Assumption in the Super Region One championship game. Kickoff is noon. Only eight teams remain in the Divison II national playoffs entering the weekend.
PIAA High School Football playoffs:
–Pine-Richland will meet Manheim Township Saturday in the 6A semifinals. The game kicks-off at Mansion Park Stadium in Altoona at 1pm.
–Gateway will play Manheim Central tonight in Altoona at 7pm in the 5a semifinals.
–Quaker Valley and Sharon play tonight in the 3A semifinals at North Hills high school at 7pm.
–Wilmington and Washington meet at Slippery Rock University tonight at 7pm in the 2A semifinals.
–Farrell and Jeanette play their 1A semifinal game tonight at Seneca Valley high school. Kickoff is 7pm.
