One child was thrown out of a car and another child was injured after their mother crashed while driving drunk.
Police say 41-year-old Lashelle Gibson of Pittsburgh was driving southbound on Route 28 in O’Hara Township by the R.I.D.C. exit (Exit 10) Sunday around 3:45 p.m. when she tried to pass another car. Gibson then crashed into the center barrier, which sent her nine-year-old child flying nearly 30 feet out of the car—and almost ran over by traffic.
An eight-year-old boy, meanwhile, was thrown against the rear window, which shattered it. The nine-year-old, who was ejected, suffered only a minor face injury. And the eight-year-old was not injured at all.
Police say neither child was properly restrained. Gibson was also wanted on a charge of failure to appear for sentencing for a previous D.U.I.
Multiple charges are pending lab results and a complete investigation.
