The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Boston Bruins 6-5 in overtime last night at PPG Paints Arena. The Pens scored three in the first period, before allowing Boston back in the game. Tristan Jarry made his second consecutive start in goal for the Pens, but was replaced by Matt Murray after giving up four goals in the second period. Evgeni Malkin scored twice and had three points. Sidney Crosby had three points after netting a goal and three assists Friday. (They defeated the New York Islanders 4-0 Friday. )
The Pens were 2-of-3 on the power play, and held Boston 0-for-2. It was the first time since December 1st and 2nd that the Pens put together back-to-back victories. The Pens moved into the final Eastern Conference playoff spot by one point over Carolina, who lost to the Bruins 7-1 Saturday.
Defenseman Ian Cole was a healthy scratch for the fifth time this season.
The Pens are off until back-to-back games this weekend. They will host Detroit Saturday afternoon at 1:05pm, then host the New York Rangers Sunday night.
