Longtime Pittsburgh Pirates broadcaster and player Steve Blass will retire after the 2019 season, his 60th with the organization.
Blass made his debut as a player within the Pirates organization at the age of 18 in 1960. He would make his Major League debut with the Bucs 1964 as a 22-year old right-hander.
Blass became a World Series hero in 1971 when he pitched the Pirates to victory over Baltimore.
After retiring as a player, Blass joined the Pirates broadcast booth, and has become the longest-tenured broadcaster in franchise history. 2019 will be his 34th year as a color commentator. He had previously reduced his schedule to home games.
The team will honor Blass with a bobblehead night September 28th, one day prior to his final broadcast.
