The Butler Boys Basketball team defeated Pine-Richland 70-68 last night in a WPIAL playoff thriller. The victory moves the Golden Tornado into the Class 6A championship game Saturday against Mt. Lebanon. Pine-Richland entered the game the #1 seed in the tournament, and trailed Butler by double-digits with a minute remaining in the game. Butler’s Ethan Morton fouled out with a half minute remaining, and the Rams almost pulled off a stunning comeback. Morton led all scorers with 40 points. Butler’s Luke Patten was injured in the final seconds and had to be carted off the floor.
Saturday’s game will be carried on WBUT and The Rock Station 97.7fm beginning at 8:50pm.
Mt. Lebanon defeated Canon-McMillan 58-39 in the other 6A semifinal last night.
Tonight: the North Catholic Boys will meet Lincoln Park at the Petersen Events Center in the WPIAL 3A championship game. Tip-off is 9pm.
