AAA is reminding drivers of safe driving practices while driving with the Christmas tree on the roof.
Drivers who do not secure trees on cars when transporting them or anything on the roof of a vehicle can face fines if the item falls off. Fines can go from $10 to $5,000.
In the last fours years there have been around 500 deaths due to debris left on the road after falling of a vehicle.
AAA has some tips for safely securing the tree:
- Use the right vehicle
- Use quality tie downs
- Secure lose branches with netting
- Secure the tree the top, bottom, and middle
- Give it a tug test before driving off
Finally, twine looped through door jambs can cause permanent damage to your car.
