Although the snow has passed, frigid temperatures remain for the upcoming week and AAA has provided information on how to protect your home from the cold weather.
AAA says to turn off exterior faucets, repair weather stripping, use calk or insulation to seal all cracks, let faucets drip, know where water shutoff valves are located so they can be shut off if needed, keep cabinet doors open to let in warm air.
They also say the best protection is to ensure your homeowners insurance covers winter storm damage, which can cover damage from snow and bursting pipes due to the cold.
Be proactive by taking the necessary precautions such as trimming trees in the spring and fall, shutting off water and drain pipes, and cleaning gutters.
