Thursday begins the official July 4th holiday travel period, and AAA is expecting a big number of Americans to hit the road and airways this weekend.
An estimated 47.7 million people will be traveling over the next five days. AAA also adds that despite the high gas prices, Americans are still planning road trips. More than 90 percent of travelers are expected to go by vehicle this weekend.
The numbers are up nearly 40 percent compared to 2020—and are just slightly below pre-pandemic numbers.
