We have entered the time of year when many motorists secure Christmas trees to the roofs of vehicles and AAA East Central is encouraging the use of caution.
According to AAA, improperly secured trees can become dangerous projectiles, causing hazards on the road and damage to vehicles.
Tips for safely accomplishing the transport of a Christmas tree include choosing a vehicle with a roof rack, one with a bed like a pickup truck, or any kind of van that can fit the tree inside with all doors closed. Using quality tie downs is also important along with protecting tree and vehicle, pointing the trunk towards the front, and driving slowly.
Drivers can be subject to fines, penalties, and even jail time if a tree falls off a vehicle on the road as well as costly repairs.
