As hot temperatures continue to impact the area today and through the summer, AAA experts are reminding motorists about the dangers of children and pets in cars.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 900 children have died of heat stroke in the last 25 years after being left or trapped in a vehicle. Kids should never be left alone in a vehicle, even for a minute.
Pets are also susceptible to heat stroke. Animals left in hot cars can face brain or organ damage, and possibly death. Signs of heat stroke include panting, drooling, vomiting, and wobbly movement.
Vehicles can get hot very quickly. AAA says in just 10 minutes, the interior temperature can increase by 20 degrees and become deadly.
