The holidays are the biggest giving-season of the year, which means there are scammers looking to take advantage.
Mary Bach of AARP’s Consumer Issues Task Force offers some tips that can help you avoid scams this year.
“Like genuine non-profits, scam charities reach you via telemarketing, direct marketing, and even door-to-door solicitation,” Bach said.
Bach also said scammers get creative with establishing fake websites.
“Scammers also create well-designed websites with deceptive names,” Bach added.
AARP does offer a fraud watch network which can be found on their website.
