West Virginia University Health System’s acquisition of Independence Health System is one step closer to being complete.
Attorney General Dave Sunday announced a settlement agreement has been reached that will keep all IHS facilities open for at least five years and protect consumers.
Several other items in the agreement include safeguarding personal information, negotiating in good faith with health insurance providers, preventing the termination of any established contract, and maintaining any charity care and financial assistance policies with state law.
West Virginia will acquire five hospitals that serve nearly one million people across Western Pennsylvania, including Butler Memorial, and has already committed $800 million in investments to the hospitals.
The sale is expected to close later this month or early October.
