Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official is advising residents to stay vigilant after a scam was reported on Meta platforms involving investments.
According to Attorney General Dave Sunday, scammers on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp have been using deceptive advertisements and deepfake technology to lure potential investors into a variety of scams.
These scams include “pump and dump” scams, confidence scams, and fraudulent cryptocurrency schemes that aim to extract as much money as possible from victims.
Officials recommend that residents protect themselves from social media investment scams by identifying red-flags like guaranteed returns, verifying credentials before investing, and looking out for deepfakes and AI that mimic real people.
