Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official is encouraging residents to take precautions as social media has encouraged the thefts of some vehicles.
According to Attorney General Michelle Henry, a recent Tik Tok challenge encourages viewers to steal a Hyundai vehicle using household items. This is possible because the affected vehicles are missing software that prevents the vehicles from being started without a key.
Affected vehicles include 2017 to 2020 Hyundai Elantras, 2015 to 2019 Hyundai Sonatas, and 2020-2021 Hyundai Venues. Software updates to resolve this issue are expected to be available by June.
Any owners who believe they may be at risk should contact local law enforcement to see if they are eligible for a free steering wheel lock provided by Hyundai.
