The American League defeated the National League 5-3 last night in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game played in Texas. Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani gave the National League team a 3-0 lead in the third inning with a three-run home run. The A.L. team tied the game in the bottom of that inning, then won the game on a two-run home run in the fifth inning when Boston’s Jarren Duran hit a two-run shot. He was named the game’s MVP.
Pirates rookie Paul Skenes started the game for the National League, and pitched a scoreless inning. Skenes retired the first two batters he faced before walking Juan Soto. He then retired Soto’s teammate Aaron Judge on a groundball out.
Bethel Park’s Mason Miller struck out Shohei Ohtani and Trea Turner in his one inning pitched for the American League. Miller is the closer for the Oakland Athletics.
Bryan Reynolds entered the game as a substitution and singled in his first at-bat in the seventh inning. He went 1-for-2, striking out to end the game.
The Pirates return to play Friday when they host the Philadelphia Phillies to open a three-game series and six-game home stand. The Cardinals come to Pittsburgh Monday.
