Our region has received a passing grade by a national organization for cutting down on air pollution but still ranks low for daily pollutants.
The American Lung Association recently issued its annual “State of the Air” report which measured the 12-county Pittsburgh-New Castle-Weirton metro area for particle pollution and ozone.
The Association points out that even though the region currently meets the EPA standard for measuring fine particles, the area continues to rank among the 25 worst in the country for both year-round and daily measures of fine particle pollution and ozone smog.
This is the third consecutive year that our area has improved in all three measures of air pollution detailed in the report including reducing year round average for fine particles, fewer days with unhealthy air, and improving from 35th worst in ozone last year to 46th worst this year.
