The American Red Cross is now offering COVID-19 antibody tests for blood donors across the area.
Barb Kimbell of the American Red Cross says that the antibody tests will happen for all donors at least through the end of August.
It’s a move that is possible thanks to a generous donation—but also has resulted in more people donating blood.
“A lot of people are signing up to donate at our drives, which is wonderful,” Kimbell said. “We are seeing an increase in demand at the hospitals because many surgeries and other procedures are taking place after having been postponed because of COVID-19.”
Kimbell says results typically take 10 to 12 days. If you test positive for antibodies, there are a number of follow-up steps that the Red Cross will discuss with you.
