The Pittsburgh Pirates were shutout 2-0 last night by the San Diego Padres. Pirates starting pitcher Tyler Anderson took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of the game, before he allowed two hits and both runs in that seventh inning and took the loss. Meanwhile the Pirate bats failed to produce a run for the second straight game. They managed just four hits and struck out 10 times. It is the fifth consecutive Pirates loss.
The Pirates and Padres play their second of three games tonight at 10:10pm. Mitch Keller will take his 1-3 record and 8.20 ERA to the mound for the Bucs.
Former Pirate closer Mark Melancon was named the National League reliever of the month for April. In 12 appearances, the 36-year old right-hander converted nine save opportunities. He had a 0.69 ERA with 14 strikeouts and just one walk. He retired 38 of 43 batters he faced in April.
