Butler City Council will hold another gathering later this month in order to continue discussions about a plan that would establish a Rental Inspection Ordinance and Program within the city.
According to Councilman Don Shearer, an exact date and time for the gathering has not yet been finalized but discussions will pick up where they left off at the end of the first meeting in November.
Shearer went on to say that no changes have been made to his original proposal but he is willing to consider alternatives.
“We’re picking up right where we left off. I have an idea of a counter proposal to make,” Shearer said. “We also want to hear what they have come up with, because there was a group that was going to meet among themselves and bring something forward.”
The program would only trigger a required inspection when a new tenant moves into a property or if the property has been formally identified as a nuisance. The city would incur administrative costs but those would be paid for using the fees from the inspections.
A Council vote on the proposal is expected to take place before the end of February and if passed, an effective date of at least six months after that would be set to allow property owners a chance to address issues.
