A number of area teams – especially from Butler County are dotting the landscape of WPIAL titles and the PIAA championships!
Soccer:
–The Mars Boys and Girls Soccer teams remain unbeaten and have reached the state tournament semifinals. The 19-0 Planet Boys defeated Hollidaysburg 4-1 Saturday in the state quarterfinals. They will host Erie Cathedral Prep Tuesday at 7pm. The 17-0 Girls defeated Warren 8-0 for their seventh consecutive shutout. The defending state champions will travel to Hollidaysburg Tuesday to face Mechanicsburg at 6pm.
–The Seneca Valley Boys Soccer team has reached the Final Four of the PIAA 4A playoffs after a 6-0 victory over State College Saturday. The Raiders will meet Cumberland Valley in the state semifinals Tuesday at Mansion Park in Altoona. The match begins at 7pm.
–The North Catholic Girls Soccer team defeated Clearfield 3-0 in the PIAA 2A quarterfinals Saturday. Jayden Sharpless had a hat trick for the Lady Trojans. They will meet Bedford Tuesday in the state semifinals. The match will be played at Mars high school and begins at 5pm.
–The Karns City Boys Soccer team fell to Deer Lakes 2-0 in the PIAA 2A quarterfinals.
–The North Allegheny Girls were also winners Saturday –with a 5-1 victory over McDowell to reach the 4A soccer semifinals.
Volleyball:
–The North Catholic Girls Volleyball team defeated Redbank Valley 3-0 in the 2A state quarterfinals.
WPIAL Football championships:
–Pine-Richland dominated Peters Township 35-0 Saturday to win the WPIAL 5A championship. The Rams will meet Governor Mifflin in the state semifinals Saturday in Hollidaysburg.
–Oil City and WPIAL champion Thomas Jefferson will play in the 4A semifinals Friday night. TJ defeated Aliquippa in a thriller 35-28 in overtime to win the WPIAL 4A title.
–Central Valley defended their 3A championship with a 35-0 win over Elizabeth Forward Friday night.
–Beaver Falls won the WPIAL 2A title with 43-30 win over Sto-Rox and will face District-10 champion Wilmington Friday at Geneva College.
–Jeanette defeated Clairton 45-14 Saturday to win the WPIAL 1A title. They get District-10 champion Reynolds in the state semifinals Friday night. Reynolds got past Redbank Valley 19-15.
–Central Catholic had to forfeit their PIAA quarterfinal round game with McDowell Saturday due to COVID-19 concerns.
–Erie Cathedral Prep also received a free ride to the PIAA semifinals after Wyoming Valley had to pull out of their playoff match-up.
