A rare occurrence happened this past week at Keystone Safari; a giraffe calf was born, the first in in the area for almost 2 years.
On Friday night a giraffe calf was born with no complications to the mother or the calf and all signs show a healthy calf.
Adam Guiher is Director at Keystone Safari, he has been present for the last several Giraffes born across western Pennsylvania. Guiher says there is a reason a giraffe is featured in the logo for the safari.
“The giraffe is really a keystone species for the park. We really wouldn’t exist if we didn’t raise these giraffes at Living Treasures park and then move then to the Keystone Safari facility,” Guiher said. “One of the main reasons the park is here today is because of the giraffe.”
Visitors can visit the newly born giraffe as long as the safari is open until the end of the year.
