After hearing about a new program, the Butler Area School Board plans to vote next month on giving approval for a local rollout next year.
Chair of the district’s World Language Department Dr. Jared Schneider addressed the school board Monday night with more information about the Pennsylvania Seal of Biliteracy.
This would be an award presented to students who achieve “intermediate-high proficiency in English and at least one additional world language by high school graduation.”
Pennsylvania was the 46th state to adopt a Seal of Biliteracy and 36 school districts across the state currently participate in this program.
Students would need to assemble a portfolio demonstrating a high level of listening, speaking, reading, and writing proficiency.
Adopting this program would cost very little for the district and this proposal will be on the board’s agenda for the May meeting.
