In high school boys basketball:
–The Karns City boys defeated Clarion-Limestone 61-48 Saturday to win their first Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference championship since they won back-to-back titles in 2001 and 2002. The Gremlins open the District 9 Class 2A playoffs Friday when they host Cranberry.
–The Redbank Valley girls won their third straight conference title following a 45-30 win over Karns City, also on Saturday.
–The Knoch boys defeated Beaver 52-48 Friday night in the opening round of the WPIAL Class 4A playoffs. Derek Lang and Teegan Finucan combined for 31 points as the Knights rallied from an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Knoch will face #1-seed Lincoln Park Wednesday in the Quarterfinals. Tip-off will be 8pm at North Allegheny high school. Hear the game on WISR.
–Lincoln Park eliminated Freeport 93-63 in their playoff opener Friday.
–North Catholic defeated Elizabeth Forward 73-53 Friday, also in the Class 4A First Round. The Trojans will meet Uniontown Wednesday.
Tonight – the Mars boys will travel to Franklin Regional in the Class 5A First Round. Tip-off is 7pm.
