Some students at Butler County Community College were pleasantly surprised when they found an additional $450 put into their bank accounts.
BC3 received $941,416 in federal funding from the CARES Act, and administrators opted to give that money right back to students.
The college gave the grants to nearly 1,500 eligible students who were enrolled either full or part-time on March 11th when in-person classes were transitioned to remote instruction after the coronavirus shut down the campus.
The grants were based on general estimated costs for students whose in-person classes were moved to online instruction.
BC3 has also set aside about $280,000 for a second phase of distribution to Title IV-eligible students who yet to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as FAFSA. Those students must complete the FAFSA by May 31.
