The state Department of Health is releasing data that they say shows the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“The data that we are reporting shows that the vast majority of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths incurring in Pennsylvania since January occurred in people who were not vaccinated,” Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam said.
Those details show that since January, 94 percent of cases, 95 percent of hospitalizations, and 97 percent of virus-related deaths have been in the unvaccinated.
Beam also broke down the number of breakthrough cases.
“Between January 1 and September 7, there have been 35,389 identified post-vaccination cases, among a total of 639,729 positive cases,” Beam said.
Beam also added that unvaccinated people are seven times more likely to get COVID.
