Hunters will take to Pennsylvania’s woods this weekend as bear archery season begins.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission estimates that 15,000 bears are roaming the state.
Data shows that it may be a rarity for hunters to get a bear, with only 1.5 to 2.5 percent of license holders harvesting a bear in any given year.
Last year in Butler County there were 40 bears harvested, which was down three compared to 2021.
Overall, there were 3,170 bears harvested last year in Pennsylvania.
The statewide bear archery season runs from this Saturday through November 4th.
