Lawmakers in Pennsylvania are proposing a bill that would target energy suppliers who hike rates with auto-renew contracts.
The bill targets door-to-door energy suppliers who promise low rates and then automatically hike rates after the first year. Rate increases are hidden in the automatic re-enrollment contract.
The bill would have customers return to default services at the end of the contract term preventing being led into a rate hike.
No formal introduction of the bill has been made in the state house.
