State house lawmakers have passed a bill that would allow for a database of blighted properties to be created so municipalities can fine the owners.
The bill passed through the state house with bipartisan support by a vote of 125 to 78.
The database will be run by the DCED and it will allow municipalities and state agencies to avoid allowing owners of blighted properties to continue the practice across the state.
The hopes of the bill will be to increase the tax base for municipalities and prevent property owners from purchasing a home and holding it.
The bill now moves to senate committees before a vote on the senate floor.
