A bill that would create harsher penalties for distracted driving is advancing in the state senate.
Senator Rosemary Brown says the bill would prohibit the use of hand held cell phones while driving, and also increase penalties for texting while driving.
“This legislation is meant to put a law into place that will make sure drivers understand that Pennsylvania is expecting accountability and responsibility when you use that cell phone,” Brown said.
Brown is hopeful that Pennsylvania can join the 23 others states that enforce a cell phone ban while driving.
