Lawmakers in Harrisburg have announced they plan to introduce a bill that would require driver license tests only be in English.
According to the bill’s memo, “due to the mass influx of immigrants” vehicle accidents have increased and the Representative Marla Brown and Joe Hamm blame non-English speaking drivers.
They claim that these drivers cannot communicate with other drivers and law enforcement.
The proposed bill would require a written and behind the wheel test only offered in English; PennDOT would be required to develop an English proficiency exam for any new drivers. The exam may not be offered in another language, and interpreters would not allowed to be used.
The same rules would apply for those looking to get a CDL license.
The bill would also allow for accommodations for those with disabilities.
The bull has not been formally introduced in the State house.
