The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2 Wednesday afternoon and took the three-game series. Paul Skenes lasted only four innings after laboring through a long second inning. He allowed all four runs to the Brewers in that inning, the first time in his professional career that he has allowed more than three runs in an inning.
Skenes allowed four hits, walking two batters and striking out four. His record fell to 4-7 and his ERA climbed to 2.12. Brewers rookie Jacob Misiorowski earned his third straight victory to start his major league career. He pitched five shutout innings, allowing two hits, walking two and striking out eight.
The Pirates struck out 13 times in the game. They had four hits, two by Tommy Pham.
The largest crowd to ever see a regular-season daytime game attended in Milwaukee to see the pitching clash.
The Pirates are off today, then open a six-game home-stand Friday night when they host the New York Mets.
