An incident involving the possible exposure of Butler Area School Police to the coronavirus has resulted in a request from school administrators.
According to a letter sent to parents by Superintendent Dr. Brian White, two officers were delivering a device to a family in need of technology on Tuesday. A parent indicated that a child in the home was presumptive positive for coronavirus.
Although the officers were wearing facemasks and gloves during the delivery, they were placed on administrative leave for 14 days. Neither officer has exhibited any symptoms. All school police and cafeteria workers are screened daily by school nurses.
White asks that families do not directly interact with school police during deliveries, especially if someone in the home is ill. Food will continue to be left at the front door. Parents are also asked to notify their child’s principal if someone in the home has tested positive for COVID-19.
