Butler City Council will reduce taxes as they give final approval to the budget for 2026.
The total 2026 balanced general fund budget comes to just over $11.2 million with a tax rate of 32.6 mils. An additional about $5 million in city money has been designated for the capital projects fund.
This reduction of 11.4 mils or about 25% for city property owners is a result of Council deciding to pay debt service with legacy funds and eliminating the tax money previously connected for that reason.
$3 million of the capital projects expenses will go towards stormwater projects, just over $900,000 for a new firetruck, about $900,000 in street paving, as well as other projects such as improvements at Memorial Park and a new boiler for the City Building.
