Butler County Probation Officers have a new contract after winning a recent arbitration hearing with the county.
The contract calls for a wage increase over the next three years, including a 2.5 percent raise this year.
Pittsburgh attorney Christopher Gabriel represented the county at the hearing and said the arbitration process is unfair because the neutral arbitrator assigned to the case is more concerned about being selected for that role again in the future, rather than making a decision based on evidence.
The Commissioners supported the dissenting opinion, but also said they recognize the important role probation officers play in the county.
