A Butler County man working to become a citizen who was then detained by Immigration Custom Enforcement has been released.
On Thursday, Amanda Smail-Carrizales announced her husband, Ignacio Carrizales, had been released from ICE custody.
Ignacio’s detention received media attention after at a County Commissioner meeting in June when Amanda asked county commissioners for help to free her husband. At the time of the meeting Commissioner’s said Ignacio’s detention was out of the jurisdiction.
Ignacio had been in custody since April after he was detained during a traffic stop in Evans City.
At the time of his arrest Ignacio had been working to get his citizenship but the Covid-19 pandemic and missing a court hearing due to his detainment has caused delays.
ICE Officials had told Amanda, she and her family would have to self deport before Ignacio had been released from custody on Thursday.
