As Butler County enjoys a high rate of tax collections, some businesses are looking to challenge the amount of taxes they pay.
At the most recent public meeting, county commissioners approved an assessment appeal that will see value of the Lowe’s in the Moraine Point Plaza drop.
Lowe’s had an original fair market value of just under $9.5 million, but a new settlement will see that number drop to approximately $9.2 million.
Officials say this year alone, the county has had to refund about $180,000 in taxes because of new assessment values.
Commissioners say that without the economic growth of the county, the assessment appeals would be quite damaging to the county budget.
