Butler County and its surrounding region is expected to see an increase in broadband coverage following a federal grant award.
Armstrong Telecommunications was awarded more than $16.6 million through the Broadband Infrastructure Program.
The company had two applications for the grant—worth $9 million and $7.6 million according to officials.
State Representatives Stephenie Scialabba and Tim Bonner assisted in securing the grants, with both saying it will help close the digital divide in the county.
This funding can be used to extend existing last-mile cable modem and fiber-to-the-premise broadband networks along with large-scale regional projects that can expand broadband availability to a large number of residents.
