The Butler Golden Tornado football team will be learning more about their postseason future at a court hearing tomorrow.
The school district’s solicitor Tom Breth says representatives of both the district and the PIAA will be in the Butler County Court of Common Pleas for a status conference Thursday at 11 a.m.
“We have a status conference scheduled with a senior judge from Mercer County. We are prepared to present witnesses who will testify in support of the district’s motion for an injunctive order prohibiting the PIAA from excluding Butler’s football program from the PIAA playoffs,” Breth said. Those witnesses are expected to include Butler Superintendent Dr. Brian White, Senior High Principal Dr. John Wyllie, Athletic Director Bill Mylan, and Football Coach Eric Christy. The PIAA has filed a written response to the district’s case but not notified the district that they plan to call any witnesses.
Breth also said the judge is aware of the time sensitive nature of this case.
“Obviously this is a time sensitive matter. It’s been brought to the judge’s attention that the playoffs are starting a week from this weekend,” Breth said. “Butler is eligible for the playoffs if the court permits them to do so.”
The conference could last a couple hours and ruling could be made Thursday but it is also possible that a decision would not be announced until later.
