The Butler Health System has seen another small increase in the number of patients they’re treating for coronavirus symptoms.
According to officials, there are now 17 patients being treated at Butler Memorial Hospital—five of whom are in the intensive care unit. Officials also say that six of those patients have confirmed cases of COVID-19, and eleven are suspected to have the virus.
Out of nearly 1,200 tests given at Butler Memorial Hospital a total of 53 have returned positive for the virus with results pending on nearly 300. According to the most recent figures from the state of Pennsylvania, Butler County has 64 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
Butler County commissioner Leslie Osche on how BHS is trying to anticipate developments to expect locally:
“Dr. Rottinghaus indicated yesterday that we were probably about 10 days behind what they are predicting would occur in the Cleveland Ohio area so they are kind of watching I guess what happens in Ohio.”
BHS says point of care lab testing is not yet available but this capability will be added as soon as it is available to allow for faster test results.

Pennsylvania health officials announced the largest day-to-day jump in confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.
Nearly 1,000 new cases were confirmed bringing the statewide total to 5,805.
Officials say 74 people have died due to complications from the virus.
There have been over 40,000 negative tests performed across the state.
