A Butler man was sentenced late last week for sending and receiving explicit photos to a minor.
In November 2023, 33-year-old Gary McCarl Sr. was charged after he was accused of sending photos to a 14-year-old victim. Then in December 2024, McCarl was accused of unlawful contact with a 14-year-old.
McCarl was allegedly a family friend of the victim.
In McCarl’s first case, he pled guilty to 15 charges of what is now child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and one count of criminal use of a communication facility. In the second case McCarl pled guilty to 11 charges related to unlawful contact with minors.
McCarl was then sentenced to nine to 20 years of confinement with 10 years of probation. Along with the prison time and probation, McCarl will also have to pay the cost of prosecution, fines, and register as a sex offender.
