Butler Memorial Hospital’s cardiovascular program is celebrating 25 years this July.
Before July 1998, patients in Butler had to travel to Pittsburgh for high quality life saving care. But for the last 25 years over 800,000 people annually have been able to get that high-quality care in Butler County.
Dr. George Davliakos, Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Butler Memorial and Clarion hospitals, remembers patient’s health and wellbeing impacted because of the lack of access to care.
“People did not do well because of that. The administration at that time realized at that time, that heart care was a service that potentially this could be done in this area and at Butler Memorial Hospital,” Davliakos said.
Today, the Independence Health System Cardiovascular programs at Butler Memorial and Westmoreland Hospitals preform over 800 cardiac surgical procedures annually.
